Our Canon Customer Service Report

October 6, 2006

Canon SD450So normally when you see a title like that I would guess that this is going to be a blog post of things that went wrong and how the item came back worse off than what it started etc, etc. Well this ain’t that kinda blog post.

We purchased a Canon SD450 less than a year ago from a online retailer and gambled on not going to a retail store and getting one of those $100+ 3-year ‘purchase plans’ they all have. Well as luck wouldn’t have it, while at a soccer game recently the LCD display just went out. Blank. Nada. Zzzzzzzilch. Everything else was fine but no display which sucked since that’s the reason we bought the camera; for its big display on a small camera.

So I tasked my lovely wife with handling the return so she called them the next day, they gave her the info. to ship it back, and she shipped it off. I figured it would then begin the 6-8 week turnaround we all know about but this was NOT the case. She got an email a few days later stating that Canon had received camera and that they are looking at it now and will notify her again when it’s ready. I thought, “Wow, that’s a first…especially from a big corporation like Canon.” But that’s not all, a few days later the next email came saying it was ready to go and they stated, “We replaced the display and updated the firmware and we’re shipping it back to you today.” Two days later, we got it.

I’m truly impressed with how well Canon’s customer service worked. So this is officially my endorsement of Canon and their products. This is the only experience I’ve had with Canon but their camera has worked very well so far (minus the LCD problem) and their service knocked my socks off. Great job Canon!

Sometimes the big boys don’t get the praise because they are the ‘big boys’ but I gotta give them props for this one.
